pick of the barn

Congratulations to Evan Syme on winning "Pick of the Barn" for the 2018 All-American Ram Show on "Innovation," Scotch Lane Farm 7474! Read more about Evan Syme and the Champion Dorset Ram below.

Scotch Lane Farm 7474 is a fall ram lamb bred, owned and shown by Evan Syme of South Windsor, Connecticut. He is a “Big Smooth” Turtle Mead 1519 son out of a “Grasshopper” Lauden Acres 798 daughter. His dam, SLF 5332, was Jr Champion of the NAILE Junior Show in 2015 and his grand dam, SLF 1173, was one of Evan's first show lambs.

Evan enjoys fitting and showing his sheep at local, regional and national shows. He appreciates the comradery of junior shows like the All American, where youth work together and lifelong friendships are developed. He and his sister Madelyn breed and show Polled Dorsets, while Evan's youngest sister Morgan has started a small Natural Colored flock.

In addition to being named Pick of the Barn, Evan is pleased to announce that SLF 7474 “Innovation” has been sold to Reynolds Stock Farm of Oregon. Evan is excited about the genetic impact he will contribute to the RSF flock. “Innovation” will remain with Evan to finish his 2018 show season then head west to RSF to begin his legacy at one of the premier Dorset flocks in the country. The Syme family extends their gratitude to Mike and Tina Reynolds for their purchase and belief in their breeding program.

Thank you to Breeding Sheep Online for this amazing honor and to all those who voted for “Innovation” as Pick of the Barn!

Congratulations to Katie Hanson on winning "Pick of the Barn" for the 2018 All-American Ewe Show on "All American," Char-Land Farms F16-96! Read more about Katie Hanson and the Champion Hampshire Ewe below.

Pick of the Barn - AAJS 2018 Ewes

Char-Land Farms F16-96 is a fall born yearling, bred and owned by Ellie and Katie Hanson. She is sired by Feller 919 and a great granddaughter of Green Meadows 589, one of two ewes that make up the base of Char-Land Farms Flock. The Hanson family has about 30 ewes; 20 Hampshire and 10 Southdown.

The Hanson Girls say they were born into an extended sheep family and have grown up in the sheep barn. Katie and Ellie attribute what they have learned and their success to a strong group of mentors, friends and hard work. There are few things Katie loves as much as showing sheep, playing basketball and spending time with her long time best friend, Izzy Wade.

The 2018 All American Junior Sheep Show brought all of those together for her. Katie will be a sophomore at Gervais High School. She has been in 4-H six years, is a member of the Gervais FFA Chapter as well as playing basketball and running track.

Katie wants to thank all those who voted for the Hampshire Ewe for Pick of the Barn.
